Sonic Officially in Super Smash Bros. Brawl

When you wish upon a star, dreams really do come true. Don’t believe me? This morning, millions of hardcore gamers woke up to find their dearest wish had come true.

Sonic has been officially confirmed for Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

You heard me right. Motherfucking Sonic. Is in motherfucking Super Smash motherfucking Bros. Brawl.

This has been a long-standing desire for many gamers ever since the ill-fated EGM April Fools’ Joke in 2002. A doctored screenshot of Sonic, along with a short article detailing how to unlock Sonic and Tails in Super Smash Bros. Melee, raised the hopes of many, only to have them dashed upon the rocks of reality when they went through the incredibly long and arduous process of the supposed unlock. Needless to say, their efforts were all for naught.

Now, Nintendo has made an announcement at its Fall Conference regarding SSBB. First, the game will be delayed until January 2008. Yes, this sucks, but in the words of the Legendary Shigeru Miyamoto, "A game delayed may eventually be good, but a bad game released is bad forever." Secondly, online co-op for adventure mode was confirmed. Thirdly, Sonic was announced as a playable character, complete with a video showing him fighting in-game.

If you haven’t gone to to watch this video, you need to. Watching Sonic battle Mario and DK is amazing. Hearing the old-school Sega sound effects and the hardcore Sonic rock music is amazing-er. Seeing him going into his Super Sonic transformation (undoubtedly his Final Smash attack) blew my fucking mind.

This may be the greatest day in video game history.
