Dr. Noh’s Wii 2 Wishes
Excitement is in the air! There’s a whole slew of rumors going around as to what Nintendo’s follow up to the Wii be able to do, but many will likely not be confirmed until E3. In the spirit of wishful thinking, here are some things that I would like to see that haven’t already been rumored…
-3DS Connectivity: Transferring of Play Coins from the 3DS, 3DS demo downloads, and using the 3DS as a controller. For those that own a 3DS, you may have noticed that next to the game card slot, there is an IR port that currently has no use (whoa!).
-Gamecube Virtual Console: Seeing as how the Wii had N64 Virtual Console, the obvious next step would be to have Gamecube games. But then again, the Wii had Gamecube games with added motion control, so we might not see this for a while. If it does happen, I would love to see some of the more obscure and unreleased titles get a chance to shine. DreamMix TV World Fighters? Why the hell not?
-N64DD Virtual Console: This is even less likely than seeing Gamecube games, but how cool would this be? Most gamers will never get to play a N64DD and even more don’t know of its existence. I am one of the lucky assholes who owns one and I have to say, it’s everything you think it is. It’s weird and it’s awesome. There are some really interesting titles (Doshin the Giant & Mario Artist Series) that I find to be some of the most experimental games Nintendo has ever released. For many that remember the N64DD, it seemed like a fabled entity, but with some wishful thinking, who knows, it could be reality!
-Earthbound 3/Mother 4: Nintendo owes us one for not releasing Earthbound 2/Mother 3 in the US. WTF!?
-Massive Online Overhaul: Likely not going to happen, considering that the 3DS online system is not incredibly robust. They have taken a step in the right direction by doing away with friend codes for every game, but there’s still no way to search for your friends, and there’s no proper way to chat/message. Ideally, I would like to see something more similar to X-Box Live or Steam.
-Wii Vitality Sensor 2: Who knows what will happen to the Wii Vitality Sensor, but I want to see a version of Tetris 64 (Japanese) on this new console. Imagine playing F.E.A.R. or Eternal Darkness with this sensor. Players could experience a new level of interaction…emotional interaction.
-Wii 2 AR Games: I think the 3DS’s AR Games are a killer app of sorts for the system. Everyone I’ve shown the AR Games to have been wowed by what they see. I would like to see a mixture of AR Card reading, and Kinect/Eyetoy-type interaction. This would of course require a camera. Who knows, from the rumors I hear, it sounds like Nintendo is going to be releasing an iPad for a controller. iPads have built-in cameras you know?
-Revivals: The return of Kid Icarus should hail a return of other franchises that we haven’t seen since the days of the NES or Gameboy, many of them only familiar to gamers because they appear in Smash Bros. games. Let this be the start of something grand. I want to see sequels, revivals, or remakes of Ice Climber, Star Tropics, Mach Rider, Urban Champion, Wrecking Crew, Balloon Fight, The Mysterious Murasame Castle, and Joy Mech Fight.
-Pokemon MMORPG: What better game to promote a new robust online system than the game fans have been clamoring for since Everquest was popular? This is the perfect IP primed for an MMORPG transformation. Not only would it be a new foray into the MMO world, but I could be the first full fledged console Pokemon title, unlike the Stadium series.
Although most of this is wishful thinking, you can never count out Nintendo, especially at E3. They always have surprise or two up their sleeve. What would YOU like to see? Tell us on Facebook, Twitter, or better yet, comment right here!
